Oh Maradona..................

What a sad.................... AFA ( the Argentine Football Association) has decided not to renew Maradona's contract as national team coach following the team's 4-0 drubbing (a serious defeat) by Germany in the World Cup quarter finals. Maradona led Argentina to World Cup Victory in 1986 as the captain. He was appointed as coach in 2008 even if he had very little coaching experience.

Maradona said that Grondona (head of AFA) was pleased with what he had done and asked him to stay as coach after they were eliminated in South Africa. However, when they were in mourning, Bilardo (technical director of national teams) wanted to kick him out.

After winning the world cup, Argentina became one of the favourite teams. But Maradona's dream of victory was dashed by German.

Argentine President Cristina Fernandez was very sad about this and she has said that Maradona took on the team when it was a hot potato and people predicted that they wouldn't even qualify for South Africa.

Further she said that she doesn't know what has happened to Grondona. Anyway they have to come together and fix things.

This was saddened me a lot. What about you.................

  1. Oh Africa....

FIFA world cup 2010 was a delightful sporting event which had lot of drama on and off the football field. Early knock out of France and Italy who were the last 2006 finalists, Brazil the favorites with star players and Argentina with their track record couldn't reach for the finals, Dutch has shown their brutality till the end but failed against Spain, Germans who lost in Semi finals because of psychic octopus, waka waka by Shakira are several attractions to me.

Of course Maradona, a living legend of the game of soccer and Argentinian team was also key attraction because they were one of favorites this time. They did very good show until the match with Germans and lost with 0-4. I am sure if they need they could have limited that to 0-1 but they were attacking all the time and punished by Germans because lack of good defense. Further, there was no proper coordination with players in Argentina while Germans played as a team.

What ever said and done one team has to go home and it is the nature of the tournament. Maradona, the man who led Argentina in 1986 to world Cup Championship with his splashing side steps, passes, shoots and heads was the man who did coaching for Argentines for 2 last years.

If you ask me, Is Maradona responsible for this defeat ? there is definite answer and it is NO. To be the Champions in most favorite sport in the world is not something one man can do. World class players aren't produced in two years. To come to that level, players need determination, passion about the sport, of course skills and stamina last but not least team spirit. Players are not born in international stadiums but in play fields in villages. Their attitudes come form their homes and schools but very little a coach can do about that. What coach at national level can do is just to make the best out form the team that is given to him.

I think Maradona has done his job well but was not lucky enough to achieve the prime goal. If any one think by replacing the coach they can do win the world cup then it is a myth. Winning a world cup needs a master plan which needs good 10 or 20 years with lot of other resources.

About Maradona, I think this is not end of his life and he has done his job for his country and enjoyed his life (even though he had some problems). He was successful as a captain on filed but defeated off the field. That is life and most important thing is to tolerate 8 rules of the world that each and every one cant escape until he dies- Happiness, Sorrow, Good reputation, Bad reputation, Profit, Loss, Compliments and Criticism.

Ultimately, How many of us can be a Maradona ?
